He wandered through the hallways flooded with yelling guys and giggling girls. It was his first day, but not theirs, for he had just moved several hundred miles to this place of dread. The man looked up from his newspaper as it started to drizzle out. He thought he might as well get going, no use waiting any longer, they're obviously not coming. That's just like them, to just forget or ignore him. They being his best friends. He thought of how crazy these last few months were with his girlfriend leaving him and his best friend dying and then, there she was. Standing at the curb, all alone in the now pouring rain checking her watch. She was utterly radiant, even though she had on a mere simple black coat and this big floppy hat. It was a cozy little diner, and when he walked in, the smell of syrupy hot pancakes and sizzling bacon infiltrated his nose. It seemed the air was infused with goodness, not only edible kind, but the good of the people here. It was obviously a family owned operation, and most of the customers knew the employees well, it was a close knit society inside of a miniature restaurant on the corner of a never been busy street and a major highway for drug trafficking.
